Rio comes to Gugs

Neil Pendock May 25, 2013 2

Brazil was the unexpected hit of the Tops at Spar Gugulethu Wine Festival which partied down last night on the roof of the Gugulethu Square Mall in the rainbow colours of Carioca sparkling fruit coolers which bring the exotic flavours of the Amazon across the Atlantic. “Carioca” is the term residents of Rio use to refer to themselves but these juicy numbers hail from somewhat closer to home – try Aan-de-Wagenweg perhaps, head office of Distell.

The colours: electric; the taste: exotic; the vibe: exciting. From a wine perspective, Nederburg rocked with a 2013 late harvest already in the bottle and being enjoyed by Generation Z.  The wine offering at Gugs was so sweet this year, tap water tasted sour.  This is the future of SA wine which Spar should roll out in Mozambique as part of their new retail push in the African Riviera.

    Dear Pendovsky,

But where are the Ladyboys ?

Perhaps they have been signed up for next year’s wine jury ?

I think this could work well… no ?

    Best wishes, Vlad
