Two issues Shiraz SA may wish to consider at their next bosberaard. Fully 1/3 of the top 12 were wines made by judges on the six man panel. Lucky tasting was anti-platter, i.e. blind. Oops, make that three issues. No women on the panel? Straight middle-aged white men are so passé…
But my main suggestion is to email the scores and retail prices and I’ll happily compute a best value dozen based on price/quality ratios which the Pendock Wine Gallery @ Taj will happily retail. The Wine of the Month Club are happy to market the best scoring 12, but since RECM has come on board to sponsor our weekly Best Value tastings at the Taj Hotel, best value is booming. Below is a single order for Mpumalanga that left yesterday and no, it was not for the cellars of Juju and Floyd. Come along next Wednesday from 5-7pm and taste five dozen red blends.
These weekly public tastings are fast becoming hook-up opportunities as like minded souls meet new friends, potential life-partners or one-night stands at the worst. The Gallery can even supply wine at a discount for the nuptials and the Taj has a honeymoon suite.
In the meantime, if you’d like to taste the Shiraz SA finalists, go to the Summerhouse at the Vineyard Hotel on 1 August from 18:00-21:00.
Tickets at R120 per person can be bought via Webtickets or at the door. This includes a stylish tasting glass, a brochure and a special array of snacks that compliment Shiraz. To avoid disappointment, please pre-book as a limited number of tickets are available.
Special accommodation packages which include breakfast and a two course meal at the Square Restaurant are offered by the hotel. This offer is valid only for guests attending the Showcase and for more details kindly contact The Vineyard Hotel at email@example.com or 021 657 4500.
