Hallelujah in Tamboerskloof

Walking past the Power and the Glory bar this morning in Tamboerskloof,Cape Town, I wasn’t sure whether the come-hither wave was from a boy or a girl. Which reminded me of the wonderful riposte from Morrissey when asked whether he’s homo or hetero he replied humansexual. Turned out to be dashing Andre Vorster and dear Gail Behr having an early morning cappucino at son Adam Whiteman’s vibey bar located at the outspan opportunity between De Waterkant and the Table Mountain cable car. In a blow to the lazy lifestyle editors from the Guardian to the New York Times, just as they revealed their ten hippest places in SA (all feature Truth Coffee next to Mavericks and the William Kentridge precinct in Jozi) than Adam prepares to open Hallelujah this week which is surely destined for Hipdom Heaven. adam For starters, it has unbeatable positional terroir, squashed in between Scott Wood’s Kyoto Garden Sushi & Stuff, a restaurant so far ahead of anything Eat Out can conceive, its in a different culinary dimension, and the Power. A stylish hole in the wall with an English/Chinese menu offering oysters, lobster, salmon, pork, duck, beef (sorry, Morrissey) and vegetable. Its a Champagne Bar that only serves Methode Cap Classique: Ambeloui is the House bubbly and Close Malvern the Rose. It’s Rust en Vrede in a parallel universe. While R&V serves no MCC, even though its located on the Helderberg, Hallelujah offers no French fizz, even though the guest houses and boutique hotels in the vicinity are heaving with eurotrash tourists at the minute. As the Cap Classique Association should say “Hallelujah!”
